Taller COPI Taller
 

Como parte de la propuesta sometida al Programa de Intercambio de Atlantea, (Para ver el informe de logros de la propuesta sometida a Atlantea de intercambio comunitario-universitario , oprima aquí )se organizó un Taller de Comunicación Comunitaria en la Comunidad de Loíza-Piñones con la intención de involucrar a los/as estudiantes del Departamento de Sociología y Antropología de la Universidad de Puerto Rico del Recinto de Río Piedras y a los/as estudiantes del Bachillerato de Investigación-Acción Participativa de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Humacao, en un proyecto colaborativo comunitario-académico que cubriera tanto la teoría como la práctica social.  /  As part of the proposal designed for the Atlantea Exchange Program, ( to see the last report of this proposal, click here) a Community Communication Workshop was organized in the community of Loíza-Piñones with the objetive of involving students from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology of the University of Puerto Rico campus of Río Piedras and students from the Participatory Action-Research Program at the campus of Humacao, in a collaborative project between the university and community addressing issues of theory as well as social practice. Durante los meses de Septiembre, Octubre y Noviembre del 2006 nos reunimos todos los Sábados en COPI, Corporación Piñones se Integra para documentar la historia y la lucha social y política de la comunidad.   Durante estos encuentros estudiantes, profesores y residentes de la comunidad dialogaron sobre la producción del conocimiento, las necesidades de la comunidad, y otros temas como la representatividad y la investigación social como metodología para avanzar tanto el trabajo académico como las metas de la comunidad de divulgar la lucha que Piñones ha sostenido en los últimos 36 años en contra de los desplazamientos tanto culturales, como territoriales y políticos.   /  During the months of September, October and November of 2006 we met every Saturday at COPI, Piñones Corporation Integrates, in order to document the history and the social struggle and politics of the community.  During these encounters students, professors and residents of the community dialogued such issues as the production of knowledge, the necessities of the community and other topics addressing issues of representation and social research as a way to advance academic work as well as the goals of the community to inform the public about the struggle that Piñones has sustained for the last 36 years against cultural, territorial and political displacement. Durante el Taller, los/as estudiantes de maestría hicieron socio-dramas sobre como abordar a los/as residentes para hacerles entrevistas  /

Durante el Taller nos dividimos en grupos de trabajo para trabajar diferentes temas / During the workshop we divided ourselves in groups to address different topics and issues:


Grupo 1: Historia de Piñones

•    Desplazamientos desde San Mateo de Cangrejos, características, poblaciones, fauna y flora, residentes actuales, y contribuciones y aportes de la cultura negra.
•    Estereotipos, exclusión y discriminación. Construcción de la “pobreza”  desde fuera, i.e. discursos del gobierno y de los medios que hablan del mal olor de la laguna, la cocina a leña, etc. versus lo que opinan los/as residentes sobre su forma de vida y el ataque a sus tradiciones.
•    Oportunidades de trabajo y titulación de las casas (derechos a la tierra, vivienda y ganarse la vida), la historia de los kioscos y que ofrecen éstos a los turistas y visitantes.  

Participantes: Laura Paris, Laura Ayala, María Soliván, Vivian Acevedo, Yolanda Raya, Michelle Vázquez, Aníbal Carlo, Jorge y Midnerelys Paris.  

Group 1: The History of Piñones

•    Displacements from San Mateo de Cangrejos, characteristics, people, flora and fauna, actual residents, Black culture contributions
•    Stereotypes, discrimination and exclusion. Construction of "poverty" from the outside, i. e. government discourses and the media who inform of the lagoon’s bad smell, cooking with logs, etc. versus what the residents think about their way of life and the attack against their traditions.
•    Opportunities of work and title ownership of the houses (right to land, house and working for a living), the history of the Kioskos (informal business) and what these offer to the tourists and visitors.

Grupo 2: Desarrollo en Piñones

•    El impacto de proyectos desarrollistas en el área que han tenido consecuencias negativas en el medio ambiente y en la preservación de la cultura (i.e. Tocones en Loíza)
•    Razones para no realizar proyectos desarrollistas desde fuera de la comunidad o que no van acorde con las necesidades de los/as pobladores
•    Proyecto de Costa Serena y la lucha social alrededor de este proyecto

Group 2: Development in Piñones

•    The impact of development projects in the area that have had negative consequences in the environment and the preservation of culture (i.e. Tocones in Loíza)
•    Reasons against development projects from outside the community or that are not in accordance with the necessities of the residents.

•    The Costa Serena Project and the social struggle around this project.

Grupo 3: Proyectos alternativos para Piñones

•    Proyectos de autogestión que se inician y se “desarrollan” desde la comunidad tomando en consideración los derechos culturales, económicos y ecológicos de los/as pobladores.
•    Ejemplos: Clases de Bomba, Proyecto ecoturístico de kayaks y bicicletas, y proyectos de hospedería para turistas.

Participantes: Lourdes López, Nolsen Castro, Marifé Román, Cruzmarí Román, Noraima Negrón, Damayra Ortiz, Camille Solá

Group 3:  Alternative projects for Piñones

•    Projects that initiate and develop from the community taking into consideration the cultural, economics and ecological rights of the residents.

•    Examples: Bomba workshops, Ecotourism that involve kayaks, bicycles and places to stay for tourists.

Luego que terminara la fase de la documentación, nos reunimos dos veces en la universidad para tomar decisiones sobre la edición del video y crear un guión en base a las entrevistas realizadas y la tomas filmadas.  /  After the documentation phase ended we met twice at  the university to make decisions about the editing of the video and to create a screenplay based on the interviews and the documentation.
