Como parte del Programa de Talleres de Identidad, Cultura, Migración y Tecnología, se llevó a cabo el Taller de Hip Hop y Danza Fusión bajo la coordinación de Tené Howard en la comunidad de Mata Los Indios, San Felipe de Villa Mella.  Tené es una estudiante graduada de Amherst College quien está haciendo una maestría en educación internacional y trabajo comunitario en la Universidad de Columbia, Ciudad de Nueva York.  Tené nació en Guyana, de donde emigró su familia pero ha vivido en Nueva York desde pequeña donde aprendió la técnica y el estilo de Hip-Hop.  Tené vino a Santo Domingo, República Dominicana a hacer una pasantía con la Fundación Melassa.  Al final de su estadía, estaba contenta de "haber experimentado más de su identidad sudamericana," refiriéndose al sitio donde había nacido.

As part of the Identity, Culture, Migration and Technology Workshops Program, the Fusion/ Hip Hop Dance Workshop took place under the coordination of Tené Howard in the Mata Los Indios community, San Felipe de Villa Mella.  Tené graduated from Amherst College and began her Master's degree in International Education and Community Work at Columbia University, New York City.  She was born in Guyana and her family moved to New York City when she was little; here she learned the style and technique of Hip Hop.  Tené came to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to do an internship with the Melassa Foundation.  Besides from the Workshop in Villa Mella, Tené gave several hip hop classes in Soraya Gallardo's Dance Studio, and took jazz classes in Víctor and Mercede's studio.  She also participated in an Afro-Caribbean dance and culture Workshop with Marilyn Gallardo.  At the end of her stay, she was glad to "have experienced more of her South American identity" in reference to the place where she was born.

El Taller reunió a dieciocho jóvenes de la comunidad de Mata Los Indios entre las edades de 12 y 19 quiénes se reunieron tres veces a la semana con Tené en la enramada de Sixto Minier, capitán de la Cofradía de los Congos del Espíritu Santo.  Las participantes le enseñaron a Tené pasos de la salve, el pri-pri, y los Congos, y Tené les enseño a bailar Hip Hop.  Las muchachas juntaron éstos ritmos Afro-dominicanos y Afro-americanos de las comunidades negras y latinas de Nueva York y coreografiaron cuatro canciones de hip hop, de ahí el nombre de Danza Fusión.   El grupo del Taller hizo una presentación de éstas coreografías el 23 de Marzo cuando se organizó una festividad comunitaria con las familias de las muchachas, la Cofradía del Espíritu Santo, y otros miembr@s de la comunidad en donde se celebró la apertura de la exhibición colectiva de "Murales de fotos" en el Museo de la Cofradía de los Congos del Espíritu Santo realizados durante el Taller de Documentación.

The Workshop gathered eighten youth from the Mata Los Indios community between the ages of 12 and 19 who met three times a week with Tené at Sixto Minier's patio; Sixto is the captain of the Brotherhood of the Congos of the Holy Spirit.  The participants taught steps from Afro-dominican music and dance such as salve, pri-pri, and Congos, and Tené taught them how to dance Hip-Hop.  Together they put together these Afro-dominican and Afro-american rhythms from New York Latino and Black communities, and coreographed four hip-hop songs; for this reason we called it Fuzion Dance.  The participants of the Workshop performed the choreographies on March 23rd, during the community festivity with the families of the girls, the Brotherhood of the Holy Spirit, and other members of the community.  At the same time, we celebrated the opening of the collective exhibit of "Photo Murals" at the Museum of the Brotherhood of the Congos of the Holy Spirit completed during the Documentation Workshop.
